After losing his wife, Lucianus becomes broken. He no longer is filled with life as he once was, and he cannot bare to be reminded of his beloved wife (including seeing his son), so he runs away by becoming a sailor. Upon docking in Italy three years later, he decides to travel to find his son and become a family again. However, he docks at Pompeii on the day Mt. Vesuvius erupts. Along the way, he finds kinship in unlikely places.
